Dance/USA Fellowships to Artists
role: program advisor (2021-2023) and program consultant (2024-2025)
Dance/USA Fellowships to Artists (DFA) supports dance and movement-based artists from across the U.S. and its territories who work at the intersection of social and embodied practices. My role has focused on creating a responsive program design, facilitating the co-creation of an evolving definition of Art for Change in Dance/Movement Practice, and co-facilitating the selection panel deliberations to counteract bias and the influence of dominant culture on our process.
As part of DFA’s responsive program design, the program team built internal systems of accountability to support the application review process and to challenge implicit biases. Demographic information was gathered through the submission forms, and each applicant was able to self-identify around gender/sex, race/ethnicity, and artistic form/genre.
